Christmas Decorating Ideas

Christmas is approaching and I can't be happier. I know it's not even Thanksgiving yet but I can't think of anything else but how to decorate my home for "tis season." While searching for decor ideas I remembered these images by Erin Swift and wanted to share with you. My home will for sure be a colorful-Christmas-treeless-home due to the little one's obsession of pulling out the ornaments, but these monochromatic arrangements would be of great inspiration for those on a more modern vibe.
I hope you're enjoying your weekend!!!

Was it always there?

I've mentioned before how important it is to me for a room to reveal itself slowly in order to keep its allure, and Katie Ridder is an expert executor at this. The more I look at each of these rooms the more I find something new I didn't see the first or second time. I can't really put my finger on what makes these spaces enchanting. It could be the different elements and textures used or perhaps it's the small details that at first are almost unnoticed such as the lighting fixtures in the kitchen ceiling or how Katie creates an element of surprise by combining gracefully a general wall sconce with an exotic fish wallpaper (last image).

Are You a Jackie or a Marilyn?: Timeless Lessons on Love, Power, and Style

Uhm... Interesting... before I watched this video of Pamela Keogh, the author of the book "Are you a Jackie or a Marilyn?: Timeless Lessons on Love, Power, and Style,” I would have sworn that I would be more like Jackie, but then after listening to her, she kind of almost convinced me of being both. Not sure if I'll be able though, but wouldn't that be fun? Classy and stylishly a lady but at the same time have a lot of fun like Marilyn did. How about you? Are you a Jackie or a Marilyn? Richard Hallberg at Designer Visions

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure to attend the opening night of Designer Visions: Cinema Style, this year located at The Setai Fifth Avenue Residences. The three invited designers, inspired by the breathtaking views of New York City, based their apartment inspirations on movies that were set and filmed in New York City, of course. Jim & Phoebe Howard for House Beautiful chose the very popular “Something's Gotta Give” which you have already probably seen in this month's issue; Steven Gambrel for Town & Country chose “Six Degrees of Separation” to appear in the December issue; and Richard Hallberg for Veranda opted for “Wall Street” to be seen in the January issue. All of the apartments were beautiful and inspiring in their own particular style from Jim and Phoebe Howard's subtle palette to Steven Gambrel's gorgeous colorful space and expensive art to Richard Hallberg's exuberant and glamorous interior.
I'm glad I was able to see these stunning spaces in person and was even happier to hear from Kelly that, for two days only (November 11th and November 13th), the spaces will be available for tours. Proceeds will benefit Baby Buggy. For more information on tickets please go here.

Below, the two first images are from Richard Hallberg's interpretation of Wall Street where he "mixed 18th century furniture with contemporary pieces, modern art and Roman antiquities to produce a result that is timeless." I love how the juxtaposition of the brass etageres against the leather covered walls and the ethnic accessories give this room that collected sophisticated feel. The feeling of the walls was amazing. More beautiful and detailed pictures will be seen in Veranda's January issue.

On one side of the living room below, Richard paired a Luis XV chair with a modern chaise and a large antique armoire from Dennis & Leen. The sconces are from Vaughan.

The two images below are from other projects by Richard Hallberg.

I'm loving

I love Lion heads hardware but I never thought of using one as a necklace until I saw the bottom picture at Chic Intuition and loved it. I would wear it with a pearl necklace a white shirt and comfortable jeans. Available here.

Lanvin, H & M and I never can get a hand on it

I have no hopes on putting my hands on one of these Lanvin outfits for H & M since it seems that I'm always strangely late for the party every time I’ve tried to buy one of H & M's Designers pieces before. Do the H & M employees buy all of them? I don't blame them. I would love to own one of each of these dresses although I'm not really sure if I'm that fashionable. One thing I know for sure is that I'm not getting on line outside any store for anything, especially in this weather. Why not make it easier on people and make enough...? Inspired by Nature

I think that Nature is one of the major sources of inspiration and although I'm a very homey person who loves and enjoys to stay home so much, I realize that I feel happier and re-energized every time I get to see and feel nature outside. I adore to drive by tree lined roads and watch the trees changing colors and lift my spirit thinking of Christmas approaching, family reunions and new ventures. In general, Nature has such a power of inspiration on me that I wanted to share with you these pictures of this huge nursery where I go sometimes to unwind. I hope it causes the same effect on you. Metropolitan Plant Exchange is right across (first exit) from the GWB out of the City.
